WHAT ARE MIND-BODY NUTRITION AND EATING PSYCHOLOGY?

Mind-Body Nutrition is the psychophysiology of how our thoughts, emotions, and beliefs impact digestion, assimilation, and other nutritive functions of the body. This includes stressed vs. relaxed eating, eating speed, rhythm, pleasure, thoughts/ beliefs, food quality, and more. How each one of us operates in the world has a direct impact on our health and nutrient absorption when it comes to food.

Dynamic Eating Psychology is an approach that helps us more fully explore how various dimensions in our lives (work, family, stress, relationships, money, sexuality, environment, etc.) relate to our food, weight, and health challenges.

WHY THE MIND-BODY NUTRITION/ EATING PSYCHOLOGY APPROACH?

There is no one-size-fits-all diet and even each individual person will find that different diets work for them at different stages in life.  Further, even when you feel you're eating the right foods, you're not losing the weight that you want, or gaining the weight that you want or your digestion is not improving.  This means that due to the strong mind-body connection there may be other psychological and mind-body nutrition factors that is playing a part in your food-related challenges.  

I'VE SEEN A NUTRITIONIST AND HAVE GONE ON ALL KINDS OF DIETS, BUT I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO SUSTAIN MY GOALS.  WHAT'S DIFFERENT ABOUT YOUR APPROACH?

We will discuss more than what you're eating and how you're moving.  We all have a certain relationship with food. Often, this relationship with food is a reflection of certain beliefs we hold around food and body, our thoughts, how we go about eating, whether we're integrating pleasure in our lives or simply getting by.  Our lives, too, are reflected in our relationship with food.  Together we delve into these aspects, and create shifts through weekly or daily rituals that not only help you meet your goals and improve your relationship with food, but allow you to access sustainable behavior change. 

 

DO I NEED TO PRACTICE YOGA OR MEDITATION TO WORK WITH YOU?

Absolutely not necessary.  Yoga is a wonderful, gentle way to add movement to your day, but there are so many ways you can move with yoga just being one option.  If you would like to combine health coaching with private yoga sessions I have those packages available.  Just inquire. 

MY COMPANY/ ORGANIZATION IS DOING A WELLNESS MONTH.  DO YOU OFFER YOGA IN THE WORKPLACE? WHAT ABOUT A WORKSHOP AROUND MIND-BODY NUTRITION?

Yes, yes, yes!  My mission is for organizations to understand that supporting their biggest assets (people), pays dividends not only for their employees, but on their bottomline too in terms of improved retention, less absenteeism and more presentee-ism, increased productivity, and happier employees to name a few benefits.  I have a standard fee for workplace yoga and offer packages for on-going classes.  I'd also love to come and do a healthy living workshop!

HOW DO I KNOW IF COACHING IS FOR ME? 

If you're at the place in your life where you've been on and off diets, or tried to implement positive changes to no avail, or simply overwhelmed with how to apply and stick with strategies that support your health and well-being, working with a coach may help you find momentum, accountability, sustainable behavior change, and results.  It can also help shift your perspective and open your eyes to a new way of seeing the world.  

I THINK I EAT PRETTY WELL, BUT.... I CAN'T LOSE WEIGHT... I HAVE DIGESTIVE ISSUES....ETC.....CAN YOU ACTUALLY HELP ME?

The state of our health and well-being, our bodily symptoms, and how we generally feel from day-to-day are influenced by a multitude of factors, not just what we eat.  As part of the coaching I will ask you what you eat, but I will also ask about how (i.e. eating speed) and when you eat, your nutritional beliefs, if you are stressed, the quality of your food, the quality your relationships, your worries, and your desires.  There is not one diet that is perfect for all, not even a diet perfect for one person.  Different stages in our lives call for different foods and a reassessment of how we approach food. What has worked for us in our 30's may not in our 40's.  What we eat while we're pregnant may not work postpartum.   Coaching can help bring to light how these other factors play a part in your health and how you feel.
